for discerning clients who seek pieces made with the finest materials
and flawless craftsmanship. Unlike most cabinet shops where your wishes

a truly custom product, expanding your options beyond the usual limits
to reflect your tastes exactly.
Our abilities span a wide range. At one end of the spectrum we make pieces
with the "live edges" of rustic lumber. At the other end, we

requirements begins with contacting us to request an initial meeting to
determine compatibility of your needs with our products and services.
This initial inquiry will require some preparation on your part. If you
don't already have detailed drawings, any sketches or photos of examples
of details will be very helpful. It is also important to know details
such as dimensions, related architectural details and adjacent cabinets,
furniture, finishes and hardware. At this initial meeting, we will make
a plan to proceed. That may include your getting assistance from an architect
or designer or engaging us to provide design services.
solid wood and veneer
Wood Specialties of Seattle is pleased to make available to you the whole range of hard and softwoods, both domestic and imported that today's industry can provide. From rustic and knotty lumber through specially selected clear boards, we can offer a variety of grain patterns and colors in most species.
As in centuries past, the use of veneers in cabinet and furniture construction plays an important role in producing pleasing grain patterns and colors. When a log is sliced into veneers, each piece closely matches the ones before and after it, producing a pleasing, clean look. If whole boards were to be cut from that same log, the match among the boards would be much less consistent. Another important consideration is that using veneers is a very economical use of precious woods, minimizing cost and depletion of the resource.

One of the most effective methods for preserving the world's forests is to build furniture and cabinets that don't need to be replaced. The products made at Wood Specialties of Seattle are durable and pleasing enough to last for generations. Another effective method of preserving limited resources is the use of veneers, which has the added advantage of providing especially attractive, and consistent grain patterns and colors.
In
addition, some suppliers sell lumber certified as sustainably harvested
by The Forestry Stewardship Council or Scientific Certification Systems.
The movement toward such certification is in its beginning stages and
still requires more research and development to make a broader impact
in the industry.
